Hello from the heart - song 9 on the Tones of Red album was recorded 2008. Although re-written several times, it was always a song about child abuse. Violating a child's sexuality leaves it with a void emptier and more complex than any other I have ever known. Learning to distrust your own distrust of others and yourself, to acquire an objectivity toward your own blemished instincts and emotions slave to an artificial and abstract subjectivity, has required a continuous de- and re-construction of my nature in an attempt to find, recognise and believe the one actual truth of self. Tightly wrapped in a thick lack of identity, it was from this perfect emptiness that came a perfectly filled chorus – a genuine and deep greeting to humankind, a self-affirming cry of existence, a statement of an unconditional belief and love for this, our species. As a number of other songs on the album, this one too is a tribute to the repeated and magical finding of "the darker the night, the brighter the light".
lyrics
Hello from the Heart
I found myself unwoven.
Swallowed by the fire of my life.
The sun sharing my smile I was blessed,
And nothing could take it away.
My innocence it was cursed and caressed,
While in the dark i lay,
Losing my light, The fatherless fight.
Why's my body so cold,
I don't understand.
Why do my tears never fall,
Why is my smile too small.
I used to be beautiful, Now i am not even me,
I love you, i love you, can’t you see.
Hello from the bottom of my heart,
I'm not insane i just miss you so,
All i want to say.
Hello from the bottom of my heart,
I'm not insane, i just love you so.
Why does the water not run free inside me.
How can i be free to forgive what is a part of me.
I used to be so beautiful,
Now i'm left to pretend the unachievable.
From my fragile world i smile at you,
But these walls are crumbling can you feel it too.
How i wish you felt it too.
Hello from the bottom of my life,
I'm not insane I just miss you so,
All i want to say.
Hello from the bottom of my heart,
I'm not insane,
I just love you so.
